When you come to SCOPe for Lifelong Mastectomy Care, we want you
to feel honestly cared for and completely at ease. We will work
with you to provide supportive and empathetic professional care.
On your first visit, working from a doctor's order, we will
discuss a series of questions with you to ensure that you are ready
for a fitting. We will make sure that necessary paperwork and insurance
information is in place so you can be served efficiently and as
productively as possible.
Next, we will schedule an appointment with a certified mastectomy
fitter. (We do not move immediately to a fitting on the first visit
because patients have told us they prefer a fitting performed in
a relaxed, private and unrushed manner.)
Next, you will move to a private fitting room to be sized for the
mastectomy products prescribed by your doctor. We will discuss
your questions and concerns so that we know how to serve you best.
Various sizes and styles are available to try on, and your SCOPe
practitioner will determine the best possible fit for your individual
needs. Your fitter will be there to assist you throughout the procedure,
and will offer a professional opinion regarding the best products
for your needs.
Patients have told us that what made their SCOPe visit most worthwhile
was the realization that you can immediately return to the activities
that were "normal" before the need for services.
A Practitioner Speaks
"I once fit a young woman who was
very concerned about participating in Jazzercise. She was worried
about how
her new prosthesis would
look under strenuous conditions. I had her stand in front of
the mirror and do jumping jacks and run in place. She was amazed
at
how well her one breast prosthesis matched her natural breast,
and how it looked and felt like it was a part of her body. She
told me that I gave her back her femininity. That was a very
touching day in my life. It was one of those days when you feel
like, this
is exactly what I am supposed to be doing in life."
It's gratifying to realize that you have just shared a very
important moment in another person's life. It's also
very exciting to be a part of helping women return to everyday
life, feeling good about how they look.
