Two conditions
benefit from brace treatment of scoliosis. The first, and most
common, are children who have been diagnosed with idiopathic
or juvenile scoliosis. The second group, less commonly occurring,
is adult onset scoliosis.
While children and adults may have
the condition in common, each condition is treated completely
differently. Individual differences
are always the foundation of scoliosis assessment and treatment
at SCOPe, and we use different braces for different needs.
Most patients
with Scoliosis are referred, with their x-rays, by an Orthopedic
Surgeon. During our first visit together, your SCOPe
practitioner will closely examine and evaluate all of the available
documentation of your particular spinal curve, and we may take digital
photos. Next, we'll take a fiberglass or plaster cast of the torso,
which creates a mold as a blueprint for the final brace.
At SCOPe, we use CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology to digitize
and modify the rough mold and create the final model. Your brace
is then created directly over that mold. In subsequent visits, we
work
with your Orthopedic Surgeon to check the fit of the brace, and then
review an x-ray taken while you wear the brace to confirm maximum
correction. Finally, we follow up, checking the brace every 3-4 months
for growth and development.
The most rewarding aspect of treating
idiopathic and juvenile scoliosis for SCOPe practitioners is preventing
deformity and reducing the
need for surgery in our young patients. With our adult patients,
we take pride in helping people preserve their dignity and independence
while improving activity levels, decreasing pain, and improving
balance and gait.
When you come to SCOPe Orthotics & Prosthetics,
Inc. for Scoliosis Care, we will work with you to create your best
possible outcome.
That means holding to standards of comprehensive scoliosis management,
with regular follow-up visits. We also work closely with you to
make sure the Orthosis continues to function at its maximum potential
throughout the course of usage. Regular visits to our office for
growth checks and necessary adjustments are an important part of
scoliosis management. |
