Scanner Technology
SCOPe Orthotics & Prosthetics, Inc. uses the Orthomerica STARscanner technology. The STARscanner received FDA approval in 2001 and is a laser data acquisition system specifically designed for treatment of children with cranial deformities. The STARscanner uses 8 cameras and 4 eye safe laser lights to take a 3D picture of the patients’ head. The scan takes only 2 seconds and eliminates the need to take a conventional mold of the patients’ head. The computer then measures the 3D image of the patient and an accurate and thorough summary report of the child’s head shape is made. The STARscanner allows orthotists, physicians and families to track treatment progress throughout helmet therapy with comparison studies, proving the efficacy of helmet treatment.
